This one definitely doesn't require any psychic component.Originally posted by Hanko:And other than that they have access to Robots and Psionic Ascension. This is closest to our actual experience with things like ants and bees, with each drone apparently just doing its own thing in response to environmental cues (which may have been created or modified by other members of the hive), but nevertheless producing apparently complex structures and outcomes through their combined actions. The "Mind Emergent", wherein the drones are not actually connected at all, and may not even all be sapient, but their overall behavior gives rise to an emergent (possibly illusory) intelligence that guides the growth and development of the swarm. This is basically the bio-equivalent of Star Trek's Borg, and probably requires a psychic link (unless you want to allow a techno component to your hives, which Paradox seems not to). One or some may operate as "directors" or "influencers". The "psychic unity", wherein a multitude of individuals are psychically linked to one another, each aware (to some extent, but typically close to fully) of the thoughts and experiences of all the others, possibly to the point that their individual sense of self is overwhelmed. This is the bio-equivalent of the Machine Gestalt, wherein a single intelligence just happens to have lots of bodies (probably requires some level of psychic or "subspace" linkage, but the drones are in no sense separate entities). The "Overmind", where there is one actively aware consciousness that is in control of numerous dependent drone bodies. To my mind, there are at least three sorts of mind that are conflated in the game's handling of hives: This goes back to the inconsistent (or "deliberately vague") treatment of just what a given "hive mind" is in Stellaris. /r/Xenonion (Stellaris' Finest News Source).Twitter account of Daniel Moregard, Stellaris director.Result: Paradox is Swedish" Websites and Wikis Please use proper spoiler formatting if you are going to discuss spoiler content in non-spoiler threads: >!Paradox is Swedish!< Please mark a thread for spoilers if there's spoilers in the main post or if there's going to be open discussion of spoilers in the comments To avoid spoiling narrative surprises for others, please adhere to the following guidelines: If you want stricter quality control, go to /r/ParadoxPlaza BANNED TOPICĬontent that breaks the spirit of these rules may be removed at moderator discretion.
